Surveys of Students and Others
Student surveys provide feedback to both academic departments
and administrative offices (e.g. Admissions, Financial Aid, Registrar). Students
are queried about the processes that govern entrance to the university, their
preparedness for university life, their expectations and beliefs about the university,
their social and academic experiences, and their post-college plans. Questionnaires
are updated periodically to reflect current concerns and policy interests as
well as to track trends in student perceptions and needs.
Regular Surveys
New Freshman Survey (Results)
The New Freshman Survey is administered each year to freshmen
during New Freshmen Orientation or during Registration. Students are asked a
little about their background, what brought them to U of A, and about their
expectations of college life.
New Transfer Survey (Results)
The New Transfer Survey is administered each year to students
transferring to U of A from another college or university. Students are asked
where they are transferring from, why they are transferring, and about the usefulness
of various services assisting them with transferring.
Student Experiences Questionnaire (Results)
The Student Experiences Questionnaire is administered each year
to students who have completed a minimum of 50 credits. Students are asked about
their experiences on campus so far, including faculty contact, satisfaction
with the university, courses and advising, as well as about their course load
and working while in school.
Survey of Graduating Seniors (Results)
The Survey of Graduating Seniors is given each year to students
just before they receive their baccalaureate degrees. Students are asked about
their experiences with the university, their overall satisfaction with the university,
how much their university experiences helped prepare them for their career,
and whether they would recommend U of A to a college-bound friend.
UA Graduate Survey (Results)
The UA Graduate Survey is administered each year to former students
3 years after graduation. Students are asked about their experiences with the
university, their overall satisfaction with the university, how much their university
experiences helped prepare them for their career, their recent work experiences,
and whether they would recommend U of A to a college-bound friend.
Additional Surveys
Employer Recruitment Survey (Results)
The Employer Recruitment Survey is given to employers participating
in the Career Fair offered each semester. Questions are asked about the services
provided during the Career Fair, as well as the preparation of U of A graduates
for employment.
National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) (Results)
The National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) obtains information from hundreds of
four-year colleges and universities nationwide about student participation in programs
and activities that institutions provide for their learning and personal development.
Survey items on The National Survey of Student Engagement represent empirically confirmed
"good practices" in undergraduate education. That is, they reflect behaviors by students
and institutions that are associated with desired outcomes of college.
