Creating or Reorganizing Existing Academic Units

Requests to create a new unit or to reorganize existing units must be presented in the form of a proposal that describes

  • the proposed new organizational unit or changes,
  • the purpose and activities of the new unit(s), and
  • the resources available and/or required to support the new unit(s).

In most cases, a budget with budget projections must accompany the proposal. Proposal guidelines are available for download from this site. The guidelines include a tabular format for budget projections.

Before a request to establish a new unit or to reorganize existing units will be reviewed by ABOR, the proposal must be reviewed and approved by the following individuals or committees:

Units that will offer an academic program (usually college, department, school, division)
  • College curriculum committee (if applicable)
  • College dean (if applicable)
  • Curriculum Office
  • Undergraduate Council
  • Graduate Council
  • Provost's Office
  • Provost's Management Group
  • Academic Deans
  • ICPC
  • Faculty Senate
  • UA, ASU, NAU Chief Academic Officers
